Warning Labels

Project Image
Design students at the University of Alberta needed better warning labels in the darkroom. They also needed better labels on darkroom chemicals that would stand up to the corrosive chemicals used. A unique solution needed to be developed for signs in the dark rooms and print processing rooms as well as for the chemical labs. Label solutions needed to work in black and white as well as colour because safe lights would distort any colour use. In order to develop a solution a visual survey and measurements of the space were completed. Font sizes were selected based on current research on comfortable viewing distances for signage. Those sizes were then increased to account for low light situations.
